Youth Experiencing Homelessness Study (2023-2025)
About the Study
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) has contracted with Social Entrepreneurs, Inc. (SE) to conduct a study to better understand:
-
the prevalence, characteristics and intervention needs of youth experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness,
-
the current system supports and financial structure available to support youth experiencing homelessness, and
-
the system gaps that need to be addressed to better serve Nevada's youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.
This study will be designed and conducted explicitly to include LGBTQ+ youth, and to incorporate the voices of people with lived experience whenever possible in study design and data collection activities. Use the banner below to explore planned study activities, research questions, and populations of focus.
More information on how the study design was developed, the populations of focus, and the research questions is available here.
This study will take place between July 2023 and June 2025. In year one (July 2023-June 2024), the study will be focused on the key activities described in this graphic.
One of the initial study activities was the development of an environmental scan, which collected and summarized information on best practices, current policies, funding opportunities, sources of prevalence data, and providers within each county/region in Nevada. These data collection activities served to ground partners and the study team in the current state of youth homelessness and to inform the structure and content of future study activities. The Youth Experiencing Homelessness Project Environmental Scan is available here.
